Experience:
With Master’s degrees in both engineering and law, Michaël feels perfectly at home at the intersection of both fields, particularly in the domain of patents.
Between 2000 and 2007, he worked as a research engineer at Alcatel R&I and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (now Nokia) in Antwerp. Through various projects, he thoroughly immersed himself in different technological aspects of data communication, while also representing his employer in various standardization bodies. Additionally, he gained experience in managing research projects.
From January 2008 to May 2009, Michaël was part of the IP department at Vasco Data Security (now OneSpan) in Wemmel, where he focused on drafting and defending patents, handling oppositions, and managing a global trademark portfolio. Michaël began working as a patent attorney in 2009 when he joined Arnold+Siedsma. In 2013, he joined forces with Hans Bracquené to found IPLodge, a firm that merged into Oryon in 2026. There, he helps clients find the best way to legally protect their creations and acts on their behalf in proceedings before the Belgian, Dutch, and European patent granting authorities and the Unified Patent Court.
His technical areas of interest include physics, electronics, and ICT.
Michaël is the editor of the standard work on Belgian patent law and has published various articles; he teaches courses to future patent attorneys and works part-time as a researcher at the Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp. Course :
